Meet Dr. Brian A Schmitz, D.M.D.
Board Certified, Diplomate of The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Brian Schmitz received his Undergraduate degree in Public Health Science at the University of California, Irvine. He then worked for St. Jude Medical as a project manager in research and development to help develop the next generation of medical devices in cardiac ablation and spinal cord stimulation. Although he was grateful for the work he was able to do at St. Jude, he knew he wanted to be treating his patients face to face. Dr. Brian decided to pursue dentistry and was able to graduate Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. While attending Penn, Dr. Brian received honors in community service for his work in the neighboring pediatric dental community centers. Dr. Brian completed his residency in pediatric dentistry at Bon Secours, St. Mary’s Hospital.
Dr. Brian is very happy to return to Richmond and excited to help his patients achieve a cavity-free lifestyle and develop a positive association with dentistry. Having experience in mentorship programs and coaching children’s baseball, he feels fortunate to be able to care for pediatric patients and start them on a successful track to maintain oral health. “I enjoy educating my patients on why we need to take care of our teeth, especially baby teeth, and creating an environment children look forward to going to.” Dr. Brian is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and has had his research on Oral Crohn’s Disease published in the Journal of Dentistry for Children.
In his free time, Dr. Brian enjoys attending flying squirrels games, playing Frisbee golf, and hiking with his Fiancé Caroline and their dogs Cali and Finnegan.
